Samantha Jones: The Most Awaited Return

Dear beloved readers,

You know as MIA as I have been, as busy as life has been lately, I would never miss an opportunity to talk about the most awaited pop culture moment of the decade for me. Samantha’s return to And Just Like That… was something that, since it’s announcement I’ve been looking forward to minute by minute. I literally was telling people all week, oh Thursday? Thursday I cannot, I am going to see a long lost friend for the first time in years. And let me paint a scene for you of how this reunion went:

I was sitting on my bed as the first scene flickered into a million pixels on the screen creating the beautiful image of Sarah Jessica Parker, and when her phone rang, as I stuffed my mouth viciously with a bite of spinach omelet, I honestly didn’t see the come back being that soon into the episode. Knowing daddy MPK, public enemy number one, I thought it would be a last scene kinda deal, but nope, there she was, in all her glory, Kim Cattrall absolute presence, with a voice that carries so much power it fills up the room, it demands attention, and it gets exactly what it wishes for. I should’ve known it was coming from the sweet melody that interluded the very first movie that Samantha Jones was coming, coming for less than three minutes, to say goodbye to an apartment that she had lived so many moments in. The scene was too short, it was too much filled with nostalgic references of the way things were, and when it ended, I couldn’t help but clutch to my very heart, thinking that was it?! And that was it…It was a fanservice, a mere yet so appreciated favor Kim did to us, and I will forever be thankful for that. After all, it did exactly what it was supposed to do: Three minutes to remind us who truly carried that show, and who was the main character after all.

I was a little upset with how rushed it was, also that whole thing about Sam talking to Charlotte and Miranda about it, like since when do they talk? And how about Carrie not even seeming phased by the call? “Hello London”??? Like a year ago she wasn’t replying your texts, and that was kinda where things left off for us, the audience. Also, I kinda had a big laugh when I realized Samantha cares more about the apartment than Big…Big LOL.

Now, onto the real problem of the show…What the fuck, Aidan?! God, five years?! Like, I am sorry, this is just silly. Are they trying to recreate the slow-burn, will-they-won’t-they Big and Carrie had?! And are they doing that with someone we already know too well like Aidan?! Also, say we are blessed enough to actually get to have five more seasons of this show, obviously after such confession I know that every man Carrie gets in contact with will be a failure, all in the name of waiting for a man and his brat of a son. At this point, I want Big to resurrect and tell her it was just a big twisted joke and he was alive all along he just wanted to make sure the funeral was tasteful or whatever! Anything would make more sense than this.

On the note of things to made me pissed off: Che sat next to Carrie, while Miranda sat in bumfuck Egypt?! Charlotte and Miranda didn’t stay together after the party was over to reminisce the apartment? Steve wasn’t invited? And perhaps the biggest one, Nya being that horny and not making a BBC joke?! Insane.

I don’t know, I ended the show sad and conflicted, it felt so random for them to end it in Greece, Carrie as a cat lady living in the least Carrie Bradshaw space ever, and honestly, besides that long ass sex montage, this didn’t really feel like Sex and the City to me…

It is sad to say goodbye to something, even when said goodbye isn’t definite, we already know a season three will come, who knows when with the strike going on, but…Well, it’s that nostalgia, and fear of never seeing Samantha Jones again, and what a sad life this will be, as all things indicate I won’t ever see her. What gives me hope is that a few years ago this was a mere dream that she would ever return, it was almost a guarantee that it would never happen ever, and now look at her! Three minutes and an iconic Fendi bag later and it’s like she never left. Who knows what the future holds for this show, but I will be damned if I don’t tune in every damn season. These women helped me shape myself, they were with me in the worst moments, my best moments, hell, Carrie’s shoes walked me down the aisle to my Mr. Big, and I will never let go of them. Ever.

Well, beloved readers, expectations can crush joy, and even no amount of Samatha Jones will ever be enough, I am appreciative, and thankful, and happy I got to see her one more time. Stay safe and of trouble but, if you don’t – oh my god, tell me all about it.
