The One Where I am the Bride

Dear beloved readers,

Okay, do not yell at me! Though if my favorite blogger went MIA after dropping a bomb of a piece of news, I would too, but…I am back so you all shall relax, and let’s get into it, because your favorite Girl On The Go (better be your only GOTG), is now a married woman (!!!!!!!!!! I cannot possibly fit every exclamation point I need in this parenthesis.)

As you know, Big dropped on his knee and asked me the thing I always dreamed of hearing coming out of his perfect mouth that, I, being no stupid woman, proceeded to kiss senseless after accepting his proposal. I am a person of traditions, to a point that is almost extreme, as you probably know from reading about my Christmas traditions and what not. Big and I met on a Friday the 13th and I, well love celebrating the date, and immediately decided: Let’s get married on a Friday the 13th!

Well, I checked the calendar, and this lovely year of 2023 has two Friday the 13ths, one in January, and one in October. We couldn’t wait for the one in October because my Visa expires in May, so we decided that yes, we would be married in two weeks and so be it. We knew what we wanted right away, a small, intimate wedding, in the Carrie Bradshaw style of civil house, in a label-less dress but gorgeous Manolo shoes. I wanted a judge to marry us with our family there to witness, and I wanted a fun lunch at a great restaurant where we would get to cherish each other’s presence and be the happiest people alive.

And so we did.

Getting there, was harder than I anticipated…I needed to first of all we had a long, long checklist. We needed to book the judge, the courthouse, and the restaurant, we needed to get a marriage license, and our outfits, and flowers, and holy shit I am getting out of breath again…It was a lot of things to do in so little time and I was of course, in charge of putting together a wedding basically by myself…The perks of being proposed on Christmas day is that your life kinda feels magical in that Hallmark movie kind of way, but the downside is: Absolutely nothing is open in the following week. So I spent days trying to call every phone number I could find on Google, and nothing would happen. Did I mention I needed it to be on the 13th? Yeah, I was losing my goddamn mind over the assumption that everything would be booked and busy and we wouldn’t get our date – no, it never once crossed my mind that this day, for the mere mortals, is an unlucky day for a wedding, but as you know, I don’t tend to be the most rational under stress…

Meanwhile, I was trying to get as much of the “fun part” things ready for the big day. I found my dress online for 20$, I dragged my mother-in-law so many times to the damn mall I was becoming friends with the sales people at every store, and I got my shoes. Beloved readers, I got the shoes.

I felt like a queen and not only I was getting to marry my prince, I got to choose his outfit because yes, Big just loves me so much he allowed me to doll him up and make him look exactly like I dreamed of – that part was easy, I love him any way shape of form, but the minute I looked at him in that blue blazer, I said yes to the suit.

The leading up to the big day was surprisingly peaceful and fun. Big moved in literally the day he proposed, so we were in the prime our relationship had ever felt. We spent the week happy and excited, and whenever my silly-little anxieties crept up inside me, he made sure to quiet all of them down.

The day before our wedding, I got my hair done – because, duh, of course I did. And I had to do the single unsexiest thing I could think of the night before, because there was no way I was committing to doing both my makeup and my hair for my wedding. And so, after a lot of research, I bought a silk head cap and let me tell you, did I look funny man…Big cackled the minute he saw me, but the fact that he still wanted to curl by my side and kiss me all night long, guaranteed me that we were the one for each other.

I woke up at 7am sharp – but the truth is, the both of us kept waking up every few minutes after 6am. I showered, did one hell of a glowing skincare routine, and I began doing my makeup, all while my lovely fiancé, for the last time I got to call him that, went out to get my favorite Wawa coffee. We knew we would have to drive together to the courthouse, and for that reason, he would have to see me before the wedding. But, as I mentioned, I am a traditional person, and needed to at least do something special with that first time seeing each other. And so, I locked myself in our bathroom, and when I came out, sparkling headband in head, my perfect shoes (which literally qualified for something blue, old, new, and borrowed), and dress, he looked at me bearing the most gorgeous sparkling blue eyes I’ve ever seen.

We arrived at the courthouse fighting the humidity that was bound to ruin both of our hairs, but completely at peace at heart knowing nothing could ruin what we were feeling. I was pretty nervous to be in the spotlight which, I know, sounds unlike me, but it’s not everyday you get to be the central of attention like that, and as aware as I was that I was surrounded by people who loved both of us to death, I felt nervous. But here’s something no one tells you about getting married: That moment, of proclaiming the vows and putting the rings and looking intensely into each other’s eyes, feels like you get transported to a brand new universe where nothing exists but the two of you. I don’t remember seeing anyone, hearing anything, I don’t remember even speaking. All I remember from that moment was feeling his handgrip tight on mine, and fighting off my tears.

The judge made us husband and wife on that Friday the 13th, and between a lot of laughter and kisses, I realized perhaps this was it. This, right here, in this intensely lived moment, was as good as life could possibly get. I was loved, and I got to love in return, and nothing (I mean it, nothing) had ever felt more right, and pure, and good.

Now, I catch myself letting out the words “my husband” out of my mouth on a daily basis, with a lurking lovingly smile at the end of whatever sentence it may be. I get to fall asleep and wakeup next to the love of my life for all eternity, we get to chase our dreams together and life that so called happily every after, that one that people claim to be fictitious, but right now, I am starting to believe it may actually do come true.

Beloved readers, you’ve stood through me through a lot of things related to the heart through the past almost eight years. All the bad dates I’ve ever had, every crush I’ve ever developed, every stood up I’ve ever faced – you were by my side and you helped me through it. You were there for me just like I hope that I was in whatever way, there for you too. Celebrating this milestone of my life wouldn’t be the same without getting to share with you guys. And to quote my favorite musical, to prove that some things never change, “So much of me is made from what I’ve learned from you, you will be with me, like a handprint on my heart.” I love you guys, truly. Stay safe, and out of trouble but, if you don’t – oh my god, tell me all about it.
