Dear beloved readers,
I had a stressful week. Between college being back (and not being half as fun as I remembered) and dealing with a few uncalled, personal issues (full on blaming the moon in Scorpio), it’s safe to say I am more than pleased that this weekend is finally here.
Of course, with college coming back I have a few good things going on. For starters, I actually have something to do and I am no longer allowed to spend my afternoons rotting on my bed, I am back on my routine which makes me somewhat feeling as if I am accomplishing things – even if at night my anxiety keeps telling me I am lazy, useless bitch, at least I am trying okay –, finally seeing some good friends that I’ve missed and of course, the ones I didn’t too, and overall just focusing on enjoying the beginning of the semester before things get crazy. Oh, and of course, what brings me here today, one of the greatest things about college being back is that I get to see my crushes again.
Crushes, or as I formally call: Strangers That I Wouldn’t Mind Falling In Love And Raising Children With (seriously, ask my friends, I actually call my crushes that), are possibly one of the biggest joy in life. Unlike relationships or even true love stories – which you all know I am crazy about –, crushes don’t come with all the intensity and even the pain that both of those can bring in their package. Having a crush is supposed to be something fun, all about trading looks around the campus on your way to class, and even licking your lips in a somewhat seductive way because you know they are watching you, laughing a little too hard and trying to drag attention to yourself just so you know that the one is also looking. It’s fun, it’s light and most of all, can lead you to great adventures.
I think when it comes to that, I am a little extra than regular people – in fact, I happen to be a little extra in many other things in life but let’s keep focus –, my friends joke that I am always seeking true love whenever a cute brunette with curly hair, a tattoo and a mysterious vibe even glances my way, and I dare to laugh along with them because it’s 110% true. I cannot begin to count how many hours I spent venting to my friends about how much me and some random crush would have the cutest babies and even making plans for them to notice me and I know it sounds childish or silly but like I said, it’s supposed to be fun! It’s supposed to bring the teenage lunatic girl in you! It’s the benefits of a relationship without the consequences of it. And besides all that, it’s something that we all will face at some point, from drawing your initials along with theirs in your notebook surrounded by little hearts, to doing their birth chart just so you can know if you guys would be a perfect match.
Living in the 21st century allow this whole crush adventure to be a hell of a lot more fun. From dating apps to poking people on Facebook, the whole flirting things becomes a lot more easy and it kinda gives you more courage, because let’s face it – everyone is a lot braver through the computer screen. Now a days you get to follow your crush on Instagram, wait patiently to see if they will follow back, and when they do – aside from calling your besties to scream a little and freak out –, like their oldest picture just so they know you like what you see. And this is just one of the many tactics of letting your crush know you are into them.
And the fact that many of those crushes are complete, random strangers, just makes this so much better. Let’s face it, there’s literally nothing more romantic in this world than being a complete stranger to someone. They don’t know how you are at 3am, they don’t know how you like your coffee – if you even like coffee –, they don’t know the reason behind that scar and that the story behind it is way more funny than tragic, they don’t know the many night that you were up late watching the same movies over and over again and that you simply can’t stand asparagus. And that’s exactly what I meant when I said that having a crush is way lighter than an actual relationship. Not saying relationships are awful or anything, you guys know by now that I am not the best at that department but I am always up to seeking love in different places, what I am saying is, starting everything as fun and careless as a silly crush is supposed to be way more fun than serious.
I consider this one of the greatest perks of being single. You allow yourself to observe, to watch, to seek for something you like, something that may please you in a certain way, something that will drag your attention in a crowed room by the way they carry themselves or the way they hold that cigarette, or the way they have dimples that just seem to dance in their faces whenever they laugh a little too hard. It’s also helpful when you are single and trying to figure out what is your type, because really, how else you are going to figure out what you like, what you are into, than going out there and seeing all the fish this sea has to offer and lusting after the ones that stand out for you?
And all of this got me wondering: When it comes to love and attraction, why do people have to take everything so damn seriously?
I know what you are thinking, Is that the same girl who not only a month ago wrote about true loves and fairytales? Yes, the exactly same girl. Newsflash but even if I do believe in things such as true love and soulmates, I am more than aware that not everyone will fit those categories and it’s not because they are not worth a lifetime with me that they can’t be fun. We live in a word in which casual sex, sex buddies and one night stands are very in fashion, and no one is a criminal for wanting to try the latest trends. And even if I do admit, that’s often not what I am looking for, it’s normal and it’s fun and let people do their thing goddamn it! Society has to learn that not every relationship they will have or hell, even sexual experience, will be special, or intense, or even good. We are meant to live great, amazing lives, with long passionate kisses, years long relationships, booty calls and random crushes you see once in a lifetime during a train ride and never, ever see again. And that my friends, is really amazing. Not everything in life is meant to be taken seriously, so if you are struggling with a crush and is kinda lost about what to do, remember that it’s all about having fun and if that doesn’t work, try that good’ol Elle Woods trick – and yes, I am doing a Legally Blonde referenece right now – also known as bend and snap. I mean it doesn’t hurt to try, right?
Until next week, I hope you have luck with your crushes and that they notice you, because so far, I have two stuck in my mind and one of them don’t know I exist, which is pretty fun too because I get to stare all I want and he just may think I am crazy, he doesn’t actually have to know that I, in fact, am. Go out there, flirt all you want, kiss strangers and hell, even fall in love, just remember to stay out of trouble and if you don’t – oh my god, tell me all about it.
