The Dog Days Are Over & The Dog Days Should Be Gone

Dear beloved readers,

Officially one year ago today I got myself in an alcoholic coma, also known as alcohol poisoning or whatever other name you want to call what that was, which it was pretty bad. But I guess it means I get to celebrate one whole year free from comas and drunk humiliation….okay the latter, not so much. I am a human, what can I say?

I am here today to talk about something that I witnessed at some point during this week, something that got me so uncomfortable and so shocked that I didn’t even know what was going on half of the time. And I guess I brought up about the alcoholic coma thing yet again because today is finally the day that you will hear that story, because today beloved readers, we are going to talk about high school.

Honestly, it is not a topic I like to talk about and not a period of my life I tend to want relieve or whatever. In fact, that subject is very buried and very done in my life. It seems so obvious to me that once a phase of your life is over, specially one as terribly long as high school, everyone is so eager to move on and get ready for new things that they are all just so done with everything and everyone that they simply can’t wait for it to be officially over and for them to start from scratch. Or at least I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that this was 110% my case.

High school to me was not only the phase in which I took my braces off, dyed my hair for the first time and started to have a bitcher attitude. High school was pure torture. Everyone there annoyed me, everything that happened there drove me simply insane and I couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that yes, people could be that ignorant and stupid at 7 in the morning. But I went through with it, the whole long ass ride that it was high school to me. And then senior year came and it was like I was trying to get to heaven in a hurry, and I was madly excited because the queue was shorter than I thought it would be, but when I got there the doorman said I needed to get a wristband, you know what I am saying? Oh what the hell, ignore this metaphor, what I am saying is that it seemed like I was close to the end but to get there I actually needed an acceptance letter from college and there I went, after my getting away pass, my one way ticket to freedom. And I couldn’t wait.

Being me and always working hard for what I want, I got it and I couldn’t be happier. I moved away, started a new life, found myself everyday in a place that I didn’t feel like dying every minute or so, made the best friends a girl could ever ask for and I found myself happy. I finally made to heaven after the living hell that it was waiting for the queue to end, and boy, was it worth it.

Of course, before I actually left, we had a few incidents…Such as a lot of drama in debate class, detentions because I do have a big fat mouth, and to top all of that, the famous, or rather infamous, alcoholic coma – which I know I’ve been mentioned for what seems like forever but the story ain’t even that exciting; I was invited to the last party of the senior year, god knows why since I hated everyone and a lot of people hated me back, I decided to go since it was free food and free booze, for whatever reason I went there with an empty stomach and as soon as I spotted a friendly face, or something among those lines, I told him that if he saw me without a drink in my hand, he should fix that, and I was very clear with my demand. Of course this ended with me insanely drunk, this also ended with me hooking up with half of my class, yep all those jerks I hated included, and also with me half naked, (thank Jesus I just had my boobs done so at least it wasn’t that bad, right? *face palms*) and covered in my own, very purple, puke. Not to be graphic but you guys asked for this to be honest…Anyways all of that happened, and I actually got into a point that I can talk about it while I laugh. Because it is over, just like high school, is done and buried and I don’t and won’t ever have to relieve that.

And so at some point this week, one of my best friends and basically the only person I didn’t hate during high school, was celebrating his birthday and he naturally invited me. Much like that party, I went knowing that there would be people there that I pretty much despised, but this time I went knowing I would control myself when it came to alcohol. When I got there though, it felt like a huge ass déjà vu as I sat there with a cheap glass of wine in hands and watched them in what seemed to be their natural habitat. Everyone from high school, or at least what you’d call the “cool kids”, they all were there, wearing the same tasteless clothes, talking about the same pathetic subjects and still acting like the ruled the place for whatever reason. It almost felt as if we were still trapped in high school, almost as if we never left. And I suddenly, even more than I usually did back then, I felt left out. It was like I was this brand new shoe, limited Louboutin edition, and they were brandless, second hand shoes. It felt like I was already in my future while they were still in the past, and they didn’t seem eager to leave, they didn’t seem bothered to be still trapped there.

And it got me wondering: Why some people have a hard time letting such a stupid thing such as high school, go?

It feels like it is some combination of fear of losing what they have, whatever that is, and maybe, the fear of losing power, because let me tell you, people who were cool in high school, those top of the chain food jerks that spent four years thinking they were better than anyone, they probably know their legacy won’t go much further than senior year, and I guess that is a good reason why they really don’t want to move on. And as sad and as pathetic as that is, it is also kind of a relief. Because I felt left out for years and I thought that was a bad thing, but this time as I felt, once again, left out, it was the best feeling. They are all stagnated, they treat life as if time stopped, they are still in that queue. And I moved on, I made it. And even if I still didn’t belong, I felt grateful I didn’t. It wasn’t the first time I felt that way, but it sure was the first time I felt special about it. Where they stagnated, I go on, I grow up, I find myself, and conquer my world. As it should be.

In other news, you guys heard it right, we now have the Girl On The Go Instagram, and honestly I am so excited about that it is pathetic. I will posts motivational quotes every Wednesday or so, share a Sex And The City scene every Thursday related to the weekly update here, and a bunch of cool stuff that hopefully you guys will like, so if you are interested, go follow @your.girl.in.the.go – this way we get to see each other more often and I don’t have to pretend I don’t miss you guys a lot during the week. Until next time, when I finally write about Christmas and the things I accomplished this year, and that will be hella fun…If you are still in high school and you, like me, absolutely hate it, please focus on your future and how happy you will be there, and remember that for that to happen, you need to stay out of trouble, but if you don’t…ehh who am I to judge? I did mention detentions, right? So just tell me all about it.
